Derek Barnes brings over 15 years of executive management experience in operations and technology driving change and transformation in organizations through startup phase, rapid growth periods, business turnarounds and M&A. His passion is promoting entrepreneurial vision, strategic thinking, talent development, and innovative ideas to resolve big organizational challenges — igniting value creation, growth, agility, and high performance. From software development to service delivery, Derek’s expertise includes building diverse global support teams and technical infrastructure in highly competitive markets within high-tech, professional services, telecom, financial services, real estate, healthcare, and retail industries.

Currently, Derek serves as g-dii’s co-founder and COO, providing leadership building its technology platform, driving customer support strategy, and overseeing business operations. He also serves as Senior Advisor and Co-founder at Ignition Point Consulting where he has built a profitable practice servicing clients such as Fremont Bank, Microsoft, T-Mobile, and TeleNav on a variety of critical enterprise technology, BPO and customer delivery projects. Previously, as COO at Executive Networks (EN), he drove strategic growth initiatives, managed operational expansion and monetized new product offerings to attain the company’s fiscal goals. Before joining EN, Derek ran Global Operations at Openwave where he successfully led restructuring software engineering, optimizing all on and off-shore resourcing, and key corporate initiatives through the sale of its core product businesses. He has also held the previous roles: VP of Technical Services and Operations at PlanetOut/Here! Media overseeing technology restructuring, divestiture and integration initiatives, leading up to the sale of its core businesses; Sr. Director of Operations at Homestore.com/Move.com launching a SaaS-based real estate platform.

Derek continues in his role as Board Vice Chair of Sunflower Wellness, which provides Bay Area exercise programs for people living with cancer. He has been an active community organizer who has served on the event committee for the Bay Area Toys for Tots holiday toy drive since 2004, as Board Chair at Under One Roof, on the National Board of Directors of Victory Fund, and on the Board of the San Francisco LGBT Community Center as Chair of the Finance and Operations Committee during its capital campaign and construction. He attended Marymount University and Miami University of Art and Design with a BA.
